Dai 2279 sonetti che Giuseppe Gioachino Belli scrisse in circa diciassette anni – teatro e monumento della plebe trasteverina di variegatissima fattura – c’è chi ha pensato di spigolare e raccogliere quelli dedicati esclusivamente alle donne. Lo ha fatto Pietro Gibellini, il maggior interprete di Belli, cui si deve una lunga fedeltà di studi, che hanno condotto all’edizione critica dei sonetti disposta nei quattro volumi dei Millenni Einaudi.
Nessun poeta ha dato voce a tante figure femminili quanto Belli, vero gigante della poesia dialettale, anzi della poesia tout court. Con i suoi duemila e più sonetti, ha rappresentato la vita e la mentalità dei mille Renzo e Lucia di Trastevere, facendoli esprimere nel loro romanesco rude e colorito.
Il sottotitolo: “Sonetti per voce femminile”: indica che sono stati scelti solo i sonetti in cui è la voce femminile a parlare. Non dunque anche le donne viste dagli uomini, ma solo le donne viste da sé stesse, interpreti di sé stesse. Non lo sguardo maschile che le confina nella sottomissione e nel possesso, ma le donne che si presentano sulla scena dialogando tra di loro oppure monologando nella loro lingua nativa, che vibra di quotidianità e di vita vissuta, di patimento e di preghiera, di iracondia e pianto, di baldanza e di umiltà, di oltranza e remissione, di frustrazione e di gioia, di coraggio e di pietà.
I loro discorsi svelano la condizione femminile dell’Ottocento nei suoi risvolti materiali e affettivi. Ne esce un affresco documentario ravvivato dai colori della poesia: un tesoro reso accessibile da questa sorprendente antologia, che alla donna-oggetto sostituisce finalmente una donna-soggetto.
