Interrogarsi sulla propria identità è un’esperienza che riguarda tutti, a partire dall’infanzia.
Un picture book che può essere sia un’affascinante lettura autonoma, sia lo spunto di partenza a scuola per esplorare tantissimi temi, dalla biologia alla filosofia. Questo viaggio parte infatti dalla nascita e dal DNA, per capire “chi siamo” innanzitutto dal punto di vista del nostro corpo e delle sue caratteristiche. Con molta delicatezza, chiarezza e precisione, si parla anche del fatto che ci sono persone che dal punto di vista biologico non corrispondono alla definizione tipica di “uomo” o “donna”, le persone intersessuali; così come, dal punto di vista culturale del genere, c’è chi non si identifica con quello assegnato alla nascita.
Ognuno di noi esiste in relazione agli altri, e l’autrice esplora anche tematiche come il proprio nome, il proprio ruolo nella società, l’identità personale e sociale: “L’identità personale ci definisce nell’animo, mentre l’identità sociale è una combinazione di come vediamo noi stessi e di come ci vedono le altre persone. Le identità sociali sono quelle che condividiamo come membri di gruppi sociali a cui apparteniamo, in maniera volontaria o involontaria: la famiglia, il quartiere, l’origine di nascita, il genere, la classe sociale, la religione… Ci danno un senso di appartenenza e di comunità, ma a volte possono portare anche a etichette che ci fanno sentire giudicati all’interno del nostro gruppo”. Essere “visti” dagli altri molto spesso si rivela fondamentale anche per capire meglio noi stessi!
